New Staff Announcement

The Office of Care and Concern (OSCC) is excited to announce new staff and a new office location. As of January 2024, our office is now located on the Ground Floor of Wilbur Cross in Suite 29.

Meet the New Team!

Kay Camerato (she/her), Assistant Director/Case Manager, Office of Student Care and Concern

Kay’s is a two-time UConn alumna, earning a BA in Human Development and Family Studies, and MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs. During her undergraduate career, Kay worked as a Resident Assistant, Tour Guide, and developed a programmatic internship with the Puerto Rican Latin American Cultural Center. During her graduate studies, Kay served as an Assistant Residence Hall Director and conducted research on High-Impact Extracurricular Practices. Kay has served in various Residential Life and equity and inclusion roles in the New England area and is excited to be back in Storrs! When working with students, her approach is student centered, equity focused, and holistic. In her free time, Kay enjoys cooking, and spending time with her cat, Roux.

Jonathan Ficara (he/him), Assistant Director/Case Manager, Office of Student Care and Concern

Start Date: September 2023

Jonathan comes to the Office of Student Care and Concern after several years of faith-based work in the Catholic Church.  During this time, he served as associate pastor of the Catholic Christian community of Windham, pastor of the Catholic Christian community of Storrs and Coventry, and campus minister/chaplain at the University of Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut State University, and Connecticut College. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Gregorian University in Rome (M.Div. Equivalent). He is currently in his second year of the Master of Social Work program at the University of Connecticut, focusing on individuals, Groups, and Families practice. Jonathan had been working as a Part-Time Case Manager in the Office of Care and Concern since December 2022.

Marci Schneider (she/her), Assistant Director/Case Manager, Office of Student Care and Concern

Marci has worked as the Program Assistant and Student Care Team Case Manager in the Office of Student Care and Concern since its inception in February 2020.  She has provided administrative support for OSCC and the Student Care Team while managing her own caseload of Care Team students and working closely with the former Director to establish this new office. Before this, Marci worked as the Program Assistant in Community Standards for one year, working with both conduct processes and providing administrative support to the Student Care Team.  Marci also worked in the Registrar’s Office upon returning to UConn. Marci is a proud UConn alum and has a Bachelor of Science in Human Development & Family Studies (Services and Counseling concentration) with a second major in Psychology.  She has a Master of Education from the University of South Carolina.  Marci has over 15 years of professional experience in the higher education and mental health fields combined.  She has worked at institutions all over the country and is happy to have settled down in her home state of CT five years ago.  Marci enjoys spending time with her family including her husband (also a UConn staff member and alum) and her two daughters (3.5 years old and 8 months old).

Rachel Devin, Program Assistant, Office of Student Care and Concern
Starts February 2024

Rachel graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2009, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Applied Social Relations with a minor in Criminology. Rachel began her professional career in 2010 as a Respite Worker at Community Health Resources working with children, families, and with other collaborative agencies. Rachel then moved to the State of Connecticut working as a Judicial Marshal, Intake Assessment Referral Specialist, Nighttime Bail Commissioner, and Compliance Coordinator for Adult Programs and Services and most recently worked for the Vernon Police Department as a Records Clerk.  She is excited to start a new chapter and career with the University of Connecticut and looks forward to bringing her experience, positivity, and humor to the team. Rachel enjoys spending time with family and is a mom to two sets of twins. Rachel’s first day will be Friday, February 9, 2024.

Annie Weese (she/her), Assistant Director, Community Standards/Student Care Team Case Manager

Start Date: November 2022

Annie has been a member of the UConn community for over a year working in the Office of Community Standards and the Office of Student Care and Concern. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Vermont and her Master of Education in Student Development in Higher Education from the University of Maine. Through her graduate education and professional career, Annie has gained experience working in graduate admissions, student conduct, and disability services. Annie is excited to be back in her home state and enjoys spending her free time reading, going to state parks, and hanging out with her cat Jinx
